The last time he pitched for the Yankees he gave less than 50%
in the playoffs and came out of a crucial game with a bad back. This was not a good move for the Yankees. I am a die-hard Yankee fan but I do not like when teams go out and buy players after the season is in motion.

I am still pissed they traded Alfonso Soriano

Go DEVIL RAYS!

you guys would do better with Wells than that fat bloated rib eating overpaid ancient pitcher who can't get an AL batter out......... oh wait a minute - that would describe both of them

oh this should be fun

and its goin back, back, back, back, and its gone.....

what a joke

8,000 bucks a pitch - shit

Soriano? seriously? i'm not knocking his talent, but he's nothing to write home about, has an average on base %, whiffs a lot, and his fielding is par for the course; was glad when the Yanks traded him; now Bernie, that's another story altogether, when the Yanks didn't extend him for another year, they shot a hole in my heart with that move; and i agree about Tampa Bay ... would love to see them get to the big one

Hey Arb

http://www.baseball-reference.com/s/soriaal01.shtml

They ditched Soriano for one bad stretch in the playoffs.
The guy plays both the infield and outfield. He is no Mickey Mantle but is a around 300 avg and is a slugger as well.
Very rare that a hard swinger is not also going to get racked up!

Agreed on Bernie, they sent him to the glue factory.

Bottom line: Clemens in my opinion is not going to pull this 2007 Yankee team together.

Hey Chris, i'm not saying that Soriano is a bad player, he obviously has stuff. And i guess the question is whether trading Soriano--which the Yanks had to do if they were going to go after A-Rod--helped or hindered the Yankees, and if you compare the stats between Soriano & A-Rod, well, i think even the most subjective observer would agree that A-Rod has been a greater boon to the Yanks than what would have been had Soriano stayed on the team. I liked Alfonso, he's got character and as i said, is no slouch at the plate, but all that being said, his career OBP is a lowly .326, and last season he struck out 160 times, 4th on the list, not good. Even more important, his RBI production was 96, and i think that most stat watchers can agree that 100 RBIs is the benchmark for good production for power hitters ... though now that i think about it, did he bat leadoff, which if he did, then 96 RBIs ain't too shabby (i think Jeter had 98 last year batting 2nd).

I note that we use the same reference site, very cool.

Peace
